whitney 9-16-09everyone is buzzin’ about the whitney houston interview on oprah.   i must admit i sat glued to the scream both days as she told her story.  we all had a sense of what was going on but to hear it all at once. wow…i just keep thinking about those ‘evil’ eyes that she stated her husband painted all over the walls.  what a way to try to kill a spirit.   and it all started with her trying to dim her light.   giving up her dreams and trying seem less than to please her man.

as women we do this more often than we would care to admit.  sometimes in our relationships, other times with our families and certainly on the job.   we’ll try not to seem too career driven on a date, use our girlie voices at work or down play a brilliant idea, anything to stay non threatening.   in whitney’s case it lead to years of drug abuse to mask the pain and fill the void of not being her true self.   let her story be warning to us.  any time we are tempted to play it safe with our dreams or stifle our talents, we must shine on.   congratulations whitney! we are so proud of you and welcome you back!

i’ll leave you with one of my favorite poems by jean wilson…

No more meekly saying yes when my heart is screaming no

No more taming of my feelings so my power won’t show

No more hiding my exuberance from disapproving eyes

No more watering down myself so my spirit won’t rise

No more ‘smalling up’ of me pretending I’m not here

No more running from the music & the spotlight’s glare

No more living in this prison, barricaded by my fears

No more turning and retreating in the face of new frontiers

Even as I am speaking, I am taking shape and form harnessing my powers

Like a gathering storm, there’s no obstacle so bold as to dare stand in my way

I am taking back my life & I am doing it today

acne 9-08-09I stumbled upon a great thing the other day…

Toothpaste is a great acne cream!  I’m not sure what happened, but I left a little dab of it overnight and the next morning the zit I had on my chin was gone.   I tried it again in another spot the next night and voila!  They say if you have sensitive skin be careful with mint brands but my skin breaks out by just thinking about irritation and I had no problem.  I use an all natural toothpaste, so that may be the trick. It’s worth giving it a test run first to see.  But the next time you have a zit emergency, why not try a little toothpaste?    Certainly cheaper than those store bought creams and a spa visit.

Anyone else got some helpful and inexpensive beauty hints?
