Cultivating Aspiring Leaders (CAL) is now accepting online applications for its inaugural Leadership Training Institute (LTI).  LTI is a four-part Saturday academy, which will be held in July at theNew Yorkoffice of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP

 Members of CAL’s Curriculum Committee have created a program replete with comprehensive lectures, assessments, interactive learning, role-playing, and panel discussions.  All workshops are taught by leading trainers, speakers and professionals in business, law and other dynamic industries.

LTI’s curriculum includes, among other topics, a discussion entitled “*Use Social Media to Own Your Name: Brand-Building and Professional Self-Awareness*,” during which time the students will create a professional presence online and learn to defend against a negative online reputation.

Part I of LTI also includes a panel entitled “*Reach Back as You Move Forward: The Importance of Giving Back*,” which will feature philanthropic leaders such as Robert Reffkin, founder of New York Needs You, Joshua Mercer, founder ofSwish Dreams, and Chris Rolle, creator of the Hip Hop Project.

Also, Michael Melcher, Partner at Next Step Partners and author ofThe Creative Lawyer, will discuss leadership styles and positioning for success during Part II’s “*Your Leadership Brand: Understanding Your Values, Style, and Professional Identity.*“

During Part III’s “*The Power of Your Emotions: Emotional Intelligence and Professional and Personal Success*,” a panel of legal professionals will discuss how to work and socialize in difficult environments and not take things personally. Panelists include Rossie Turman, Partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, Alphonzo A. Grant, Jr., Special Counsel at Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP, and Vivienne LaBorde, Associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Other presenters include Syreeta Gates, author of *Just Be Cause* and founder of the SWT Life, Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz, Professor at Columbia University, Patricia Louison, Assistant Dean of Georgetown School of Business, Ladell Graham, co-founder of Smith, Graham & Company, Investment Advisors, and more. Additional topics include public speaking, gender and business negotiations, building a personal board of advisors, ethics, entrepreneurship, dealing with bullying, and more. 

To be eligible, applicants must:

  1. have at least one parent that is a member of an underserved racial
  minority group (African-American, Latino, Native American);

  2. be a high school rising junior, rising senior, or recent graduate;

  3. exhibit leadership ability, participate in community service activities, have strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrate maturity and well-roundedness.

All applications must also be:

  1. available every Saturday from July 9th to July 30th from 8:15am –4:15pm;

  2. able to travel independently to and from our Four Times Square location;

  3. authorized by legal guardian to participate in LTI.

Applications are due 5pm on June 15, 2011*.
