  • Comments Off on Crowning A Queen: Dr. Olivia Hooker at 100 years is Living Black History

on this last day of Black History Month, we are going to celebrate the great achievements of Dr. Olivia Hooker.

at 100 years old, Dr. Hooker has lived through a lot and is still giving back strong.   she is the oldest survivor of the tulsa massacre of 1921, also known as Black Wall Street and was the first black women to serve active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Dr. Hooker received her PhD from University of Rochester in Psychology, where she was the only women and only African American.  she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

she was a professor at Fordham University and practicing Child Psychologist.   in a tribute to her contributions to psychology and society, she was the recipient of an American Psychological Association (APA) presidential citation in 2011.

she has been an inspiration to me as my mentor and friend.

i hope reading about her will bring you inspiration as well…

  • Comments Off on Sage’s Rage: Can we let #Chris Brown recover?

imagesi heard yesterday’s breakfast club interview with chris brown.  he had a lot to say but what struck me most was how much he says he’s had to overcome since his domestic violence charges with rihanna.

don’t get me wrong, i am in no way a supporter of violence in any form

BUT can’t he be allowed to be rehabilitated?   that was 2009…

he hasn’t had the most stellar record since but as far as we know he has not been involved in domestic violence since.  6 years DV free…that is a great thing.

it shows that the treatment programs he attended and the support he received from professionals made a difference.  we should be applauding this, right?

as we near the end of #TeenDomesticViolence awareness month, i really want to encourage recovery for perpetrators.

the next time you choose to drop shade on chris brown, recognize you’re contributing to the problem and not the solution.

the cycle of violence cannot be eliminated without helping perpetrators as well.

if you know someone who is in a domestic violence situation, please help them get support:
