  • Comments Off on Sages’ Rage: Which Top Model Show is on Top

imagestyra banks is back and the re-up is good.   the show which is on vh1 has the most diverse set of models in terms of race, size and age. one of the models has alopecia, which is a type of hair loss that occurs when your immune system attacks hair follicles. her strength and courage to face her hair loss is inspiring.  then there’s the 40plus year old mom who is rocking it like the gorgeous diva she is.  by showing us the many ways in which women are beautiful, ANTM feels better and fresher than ever.

imgresi’m also loving a new show on lifetime, making a model with yolanda hadid.  at first i felt this was just another thoughtless reality show.  yolanda (a former super model) helps aspiring teen girl models understand the industry. the twist is their moms are on the show with them.  i know what you are thinking.  sounds like drama! and drama there is…BUT what i like is that it showcases how the moms support of their daughters is key to the girls doing well.  if the moms talk to the girls in a positive way the girls do good. when they communicate with one another with love and support the shoots go better.   when the moms allow the girls to show their true selves, they radiate more in their photos.  it’s so telling how much the relationships between the moms and girls make all the difference in their success. it’s like that saying, ‘you are only as good, as the company you keep.’

even though both shows may seem like clones of the same thing, they are different and really good.  definitely worth checking out.

  • Comments Off on Hot Off The Press: #MLK would have told Oprah not to run

i’m not feeling all this talk about oprah running for president.   it’s not clear she’s stuck on this idea but let’s go with the media circus and assume she is. as i took this morning to reflect on the life and legacy of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, i felt sure that she shouldn’t.

please don’t get me wrong; i love oprah.  she is greatness personified.  and perhaps at another time when our society is in a different place it would work. but not now.

one of things that made MLK so great was that he was and still is the moral voice to our country’s soul.  he pushed us to think about where we stood not only by what we said but our actions.   his speeches called us to do more than say (or tweet) we want peace. we have to BE peaceful too.   he showed us through his marches how to BE a loving ‘fighter’ for justice.

if MLK was president i’m not sure it would have had the same impact.   his calling was as an outside agitator.  his calling was to wake up our internal voices, so our external voice would speak up for the good of humankind.  which brings me back to oprah.

she has lead our country and the world by calling us to look deep within and discover our purpose.  to ‘live our best lives’. that role to me is much more important than president.  her voice and other voices of conscious like MLK, awaken us to become ‘presidents’ of our own lives.  they implore us to evolve into better people and with better people, we have better families, better communities; a country and world that is better.

we don’t need oprah as president, we’ve got ourselves.  as the great MLK stated…

i mentioned several years ago that i’m not doing resolutions at new year’s anymore.  but i do want to think about what type of year this new one will be.  i’ve decided this year i’m ringing in the new year with three things…

first and foremost joy.   i want lots; so that means i’m bringing it on thick…laughter, fun times and joy, joy, joy!!!

next stop adventure.  2017 i realized that life brings it’s own surprises.  i want to create some of my own.  something as simple as trying out a randomly selected restaurant, taking on a new hobby, going for a walk to ‘nowhere’ and of course lots of travel. adventure will be a theme for 2018.

finally and certainly not least i wanna chill. my goal this year is to create peace each day. moments of silence, meditation and living as much as possible in the present moment. i’m tired of sweating over ‘spilled milk’ (or whatever that saying is)….namaste; all day:)

those are my three.

what are you looking forward to from 2018?
