catfish blog 10-13

i’ve been watching the tv show catfish for a while now and every time i’m in disbelief.  there was a lot of buzz about the show with the catfisher who pretended to be bow wow in love with one of his fans.   that was a crazy episode.  but i really couldn’t believe my eyes yesterday when i turned on BET 106 & Park to see that the catfish stunter was sitting with her victim AND the real bow wow.  just NOT COOL

the tv show is entertainment but in real life lying about who you are and luring someone into love with a  fake name is heartless.

you probably could get love by being who you really are.  what is it you don’t like about yourself that you gotta pretend?

catfishers need watch out because you might get caught out there by someone who decides to press charges for cyberbullying or get you locked up as an online predator.  it’s really not a game.  especially for the victims…

i feel for the innocent person who’s online looking for love only to find out they’ve been lied to and made a fool of.  it breaks my heart to think about all the girls who realized they are crushing on a fake.

it may be hard to stop catfishing from happening and i’m pretty sure the show will stay on air. but let’s not glorify it like it’s the next best thing to get famous.  people can get hurt.

stay far away from catfishing by being as real as you can on the internet.

don’t fall for anyone that can’t give you back up about what they say about themselves.

and never break rule #1

He/she’s not your boy/girlfriend until you get to meet face to face

keep it 100% so you can stay safe!

too much homework

fighting with your parents

can’t understand your boyfriend

getting cyberhate from mean girls at your school

ALL OF THAT

PLUS

the scariness that’s happening in our country and around the world

seems like too much to bear

all the madness can really stress a girl out

STRESS…

we all have it. but if you don’t deal with stress, it can hurt you

stress causes our hearts to move fast, blood to boil and body’s to get hot

all those reactions confuses our immune system and makes it easier for us to get sick

so when it comes to stress, even with all the disasters that are happening, it’s important to chill out

a great way to do that is to take a mini break; to be still

it’s stress awareness month, so i thought i’d share this pretty cool video of

teens talking in their own words about how

‘chillin’ and taking ‘time out’ has changed their lives

give it a try and let me know what you think..

i’m sure by now you’ve heard about the twitter prank that used justin bieber’s name to encourage young people to ‘cut’ themselves. the tweet and hashtag went throughout cyberspace with photos of teens with cut arms.

quite frankly this is a form of bullying. to make fun of an issue that so many teens struggle with is heartless.  self-injury is one of the fastest growing risk behaviors for teens, especially girls.  studies have shown that as many as 1 in 12 teens harm themselves through cutting.

teens often cut when they feel like no one else understands them and they don’t know how else to express their hurt, sadness or anger.  that posting served to make teens who self-injure feel worse about themselves.  it only led to more violence and harm.

lots of folks have blasted the originators of the post.  i agree we can’t allow bullies like the authors of that post get away with it.  it’s zero tolerance time for that behavior.

let’s take back our cyber communities.   i’m calling for the authors of that post to not only be protested but prosecuted. violence is violence and there is no room for it online…
