this thanksgiving i am grateful for writing. i’ve been writing as long as i can remember and i hope i never stop. it purifies my soul and helps me through this journey of life.
from journaling for the first time as a young girl, writing letters to my penpals, writing speeches in high school for student government, writing poems in college, writing the endless pages of my dissertation, writing science articles, writing my teen novel and of course this blog.
my newest writing venture which started this month is serving as an ask the expert columnist for student health 101, an online health and wellness magazine for teens and young adults. you can check out what i wrote here
so much writing to be thankful for.
Sage’s Rage: No Thanks

today i’ve been reading a lot of emails, twitter posts and fb messages about Thanksgiving. it’s that time of the year that we set aside to think about gratitude. this year i’m switching it up and saying thanks but no thanks to a few things…
1- no thank you to putting up holiday lights until everyone who was impacted by super storm sandy gets their power back. how insane do i look using all that extra energy when there are still people in NYC who can’t take a warm shower, read a good book at night or charge their cell phones in the convenience of their own homes because they still don’t have electricity!
2- no way, jose to the black friday sales that have crept into thursday! my disdain for this madness all started with those long lines at midnight, followed by the crazy stampedes when they open the doors. but when i saw a commercial this week for sales on thursday afternoon i just shut it down. i am not interested in tossing away family values, time to give back to the community and an extra slice of pecan pie in exchange for maxing out my mastercard at the mall!
3- talk to the hand if you’re using thanksgiving as the one and only time to count your blessings. this year has been such a life altering experience, as i’m going through an internal growth process that is teaching me how much more i have to learn about life. one thing i’m finally starting to understand is the importance of giving thanks every single day! through the good and the not so good looking days and so should you.
thanksgiving is not just a holiday; it’s a way of life! what you do on this day, should be done everyday (except that extra plate of mac and cheese!)
