  • Comments Off on Crowing a Queen: Zora Ball 7 yr old app developer

at sassysagesays we often highlight girls/women who are doing amazing things.

this time we are honoring zora ball.  who in the first grade became the youngest person to develop an app.

yes, you heard right. she was just seven years old.  zora had an awesome idea for a mobile game app and put her idea to work.

what are you thinking about that could happen if you worked on it?

i hear all the time that a successful business is about finding the solution to people’s problems…and sometimes it’s the solution to your own problems.

that’s what jasmine lawrence did and she was only 11 years old!

she turned a really bad hair day into super sized business EDEN BodyWorks. she has gained money and success in her teen years.  now she’s moving on to her next thing, finding STEM solutions as a robotics engineer…

what problems can you solve?

  • Comments Off on Crowning A Queen: Dr. Olivia Hooker at 100 years is Living Black History

on this last day of Black History Month, we are going to celebrate the great achievements of Dr. Olivia Hooker.

at 100 years old, Dr. Hooker has lived through a lot and is still giving back strong.   she is the oldest survivor of the tulsa massacre of 1921, also known as Black Wall Street and was the first black women to serve active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Dr. Hooker received her PhD from University of Rochester in Psychology, where she was the only women and only African American.  she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

she was a professor at Fordham University and practicing Child Psychologist.   in a tribute to her contributions to psychology and society, she was the recipient of an American Psychological Association (APA) presidential citation in 2011.

she has been an inspiration to me as my mentor and friend.

i hope reading about her will bring you inspiration as well…

  • Comments Off on Crowing a Queen: Maya Cooper’s food is out of this world

at sassysagesays we often highlight girls/women who are doing amazing things.

i’ve always been super fascinated by space.  a dream of mine is to take a trip there one day. and when it comes to my food, i am serious!

so i have been extra inspired by maya cooper who is the master chef for astronauts going to outerspace. i guess it makes sense that they need to eat too but who knew you could create a career out of that!

maya cooper photomaya cooper is creating a menu for  NASA’s planned mission to Mars in 2030 as the senior research scientist in the food systems laboratory at lockheed martin.  she’s designing meals to feed 8 astronaunts that will keep them healthy and strong enough to stand the six month long journey to get to Mars!!! plus the meals have to last for the additional 18 months that they will living be on Mars (that’s a year and a half). as if that wasn’t enough, they have the 6 month ride to get back to Earth.

because everything has to be made ahead of time and packaged up, she’ll be cooking three year’s worth of food for everyone. oh i wish i could taste a little of what she comes up with…

maya cooper got her college degree in chemical engineering, plus her masters in food processing and engineering.  we look up to maya cooper for ‘cooking’ up one of the most interesting jobs we have ever heard of.
