UNESCO is collaborating with EduSerc to select the next generation of youth leaders nationwide (up to 150 students) to design, develop and implement their technologies, ideas and resources to impact various African countries in 2012 and beyond.

On June 29, 2012, The UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) Center for Peace will host the “First Ladies Youth Infusion Summit” in Annapolis, MD to invite the next generation of leaders in joining several First Ladies from African countries in engaged dialogue and be given an opportunity to display their technologies, ideas and resources to impact African countries.This historic and landmark event designed by The UNESCO Center for Peace will provide global exposure for150 individuals between the ages of 16 – 25 years and the school districts, colleges or businesses they represent to serve as global innovators to implement their business solutions or ideas in Africa related to the following areas:*          Health
*          Poverty and Development
*          Agriculture
*          Energy
*          Water Resources
*          Media
*          Arts, Entertainment and Education

The countries and their First Ladies invited, but not limited, to participate in this initiative and meet with selected participants are as follows:  Ghana, Senegal, Liberia, Nigeria, Benin, Ethiopia, Gambia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone.“I believe this initiative will raise awareness and opportunities amongst many youth to stand up and serve as innovative leaders”, says Guy Djoken, Executive Director and Head of the UNESCO Center for Peace.  “Our hope is to help our fellow countries achieve their goals through the empowerment of great ideas sparked by our future generation of youth!”Headed by the UNESCO Center for Peace Goodwill Ambassador for Education, Brian K. Smith, Executive Director of EduSerc, youth leaders will be vetted and selected through the EduSerc Innovators Showcase at the EduSerc Convention at the Baltimore Convention Center on April 12 – 14, 2012.  This event is not only designed to provide educational solutions and career opportunities for youth and adults, but to allow businesses, colleges and school systems in the country to collaborate with other stakeholders in education to form a strategic
pipeline of support for short and long term youth and workforce development.

Requirements
Youth interested in this opportunity or schools systems, colleges or businesses in the United States interested in having their students represent their institutions to be involved with this global opportunity must be selected to participate.  Below is a list of prerequisites:

*          Must be between the ages of 16 -25
*          Must live in the United States
*          Must submit an essay, references, and a prototype (or sample) of your solution to be reviewed by the selection committee to be invited to meet the First Wives for final approval of implementing your ideas on a large scale in Africa.
Steps to Participate
*          Submit an Essay Due March 15, 2012:  Submit an essay (2 pages maximum – single spaced – Microsoft Word version w/ a title page
with name and contact information) stating how you might assist an African country in any one or multiple areas of the following:
Health; Poverty and Development; Agriculture; Energy; Water Resources; Media; Arts & Entertainment; Education.  This involves ideas,
technologies, and/or services that the youth can personally support or implement as a business idea in a country in Africa given the
opportunity.  

 
Essays need to be submitted to
anganfack@unescocenterforpeace.org AND Chendall.Rooths@eduserc.org NOTE:  Submit your essay with your EduSerc Convention Registration form to be entered into the Innovators Showcase.  You will be given a 6′ x 30″ table and 8′ x 10′ space at the convention to showcase your prototype and tabletop display/billboard.  Registration forms can be received via  www.eduserc.org/convention

 
Students selected at the EduSerc Convention will have the opportunity to attend this special and global impacting “First Ladies Youth Infusion Summit” (invitation only) on June 29 – 30, 2012 at the DoubleTree in Annapolis, MD and formally present their ideas to the First Ladies of each country and display their technology or solution if approved.For more information on criteria and rules of essay competition,
